Please unholster your logic….

Nevada State Constitution, Article 1, Section. 1.
Inalienable rights.  All men are by Nature free and equal and have certain inalienable rights among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty; Acquiring, Possessing and Protecting property and pursuing and obtaining safety and happiness.

While the State Legislature in Albany, NY works to make it more difficult for its citizens to defend themselves, a few of ours in Carson City are working on enhancing Nevadans right to do just that. There are some members of the government who recognize that the “No guns allowed” signs plastered outside school doors will afford little protection when someone decides to ignore the law. A bill currently in committee would allow Concealed Carry on Nevada college campuses. If we can trust students and staff to carry firearms on their person outside of school, why should that change when they step on a campus? The only thing that changes is political correctness and the prevalence of Progressive groupthink when it comes to anything involving education. The belief that banning guns will stop crime from happening is to reason at an infant level. Limiting magazine size, taxing bullets or other gimmick laws like the more “Progressive” states are opting for will not save lives. Instead, it will make it more difficult for citizens who want to defend themselves to do so.
The goal of colleges should be to prepare young men and woman to lead self sufficient lives, and teaching them to trust a sign to protect them from danger is the opposite of that. Instead of promoting critical thinking or self reliance, “Gun Free Zones” divorces the individual from responsibility and trains them to trust their safety to the supposedly omnipresent government which put up the sign. Such thinking does not produce capable adults, but complacent ideologues.
While some will maintain that the above argument is too theoretical (i.e., holding to the “Guns are still bad!” argument) the fact remains that the laws designed to protect Newtown failed. It doesn’t matter if the shooter was carrying an assault rifle, shotgun or a handgun, he was on a mission to kill and the only way to stop him was with force. Sometimes violence must be met with equal violence, and as scary as that sounds it is better than letting violence run rampant.

It’s time for Nevada to send a message to Carson City, Washington and most importantly the future criminals that we are ready and willing to protect ourselves.
