Let Them Wear Cake!

One might have thought that Obamacare was running out of surprises, but one would be wrong. This last week gave us several more interesting events involving the President’s signature law.
Of course there was the news of Obama’s sudden suspension of the employer mandate until 2016. Delays and exemptions have become so common to Obamacare that it isn’t surprising anymore, except for the fact that the Left continues to blindly swear of the law’s success even while more and more of the country is shielded from its effects. Yet, oddly, it seems that only businesses and corporations are benefitting from the delays of the law. You would think the party that is supposed to represent the working man would be spending more time listening to the little people as opposed to catering to CEOs and campaign donors.

But it isn’t all good news for the business world; a story that didn’t get much coverage during the past week was the announcement that the IRS will now require firms to swear an oath that they are not firing employees to avoid the insurance requirements forced on companies with more than 100 employees. So now in regards to Obamacare, it will be illegal to take normally legal steps to avoid taxes or requirements. It is standard behavior for individuals/companies to sell stocks at a loss, give to charity or take stock options in order to lower their tax burden. Now the government has started the process of making such tactics against the law. The idea that the IRS will have the power to investigate motivations for business practices is a truly frightening one. Especially after the revelations of their politically motivated investigations last year. It has always been illegal to evade taxes you owe, but now it is becoming illegal to behave in a manner that puts your self-interest ahead of the government.

The biggest controversy was stirred last week when the CBO released a report which said there will be 2.3 million less jobs in 2021. Republicans quickly jumped on the report, claiming that it said Obamacare would result in 2.3 million people being fired.
Luckily the Left was swift in their rebuttal, pointing out that the report didn’t say people would get fired, but that instead these 2.3 million people would simply not wish to hold those jobs anymore. This is where it gets rather scary; in their haste to defend Obamacare, the Left has taken up the cause of denouncing working and having a job. Apparently Obamacare will usher in an age where we are so well off that we don’t need to work anymore … of course by this logic the Obama presidency is currently a smashing success as unemployment continues to remain high. You must admire the glass-half-full mentality of the Left. If you can’t help people find jobs, just decide to tell them they are better off without them.
Liberals claim that in a world where people are relieved from having to work, they will be free to pursue more noble objectives such as being an artist, volunteering, or retiring early. These activities will of course be financed by those who continue working instead of relying on the government to fund their leisure time.

The problem isn’t only that so much time is spent working instead of doing cool things, it’s that work is so hard. The Left likes to point out the silliness of people having to work multiple jobs to make ends meet or sacrifice family time to provide for that family. Thanks to Obamacare, we will now be protected from the rigors of life. The notion that you must work harder and sacrifice to escape bad circumstances has prevailed for the entire history of our country, and now that idea is outdated. While millions toil in the horror that is having a job, Michelle Obama is wearing a twelve thousand dollar dress to a state dinner. The behavior of the Washington elite has become more and more comical as they wallow in their glittery excess, funded by the future generations that they promise to liberate from the trouble of working.

The Democratic party used to claim they represented the working man, now their only interest seems to be with the working man’s boss and the non-working man.
