I Blame the Veterans….

That’s right, I’m blaming the Veterans for this whole VA scandal. This might be a bit of a radical view, but let’ be honest…it was only a matter of time until Rachel Maddow or Jay Carney did the same thing.

So let’s dig into why I have settled on such an unpopular and odd opinion. I was sitting at dinner the other night contemplating racial issues as they exist today, starting with the idea that Right Wingers such as Cliven Bundy are not racist against black people, but are prejudiced against modern Black Culture. That idea carried me to the thought of how the Black Community shares the burden of blame for creating such a dysfunctional society by abdicating their personal responsibility and relying on the Government to solve their problems.
The same line of thinking holds for our Veterans; by placing their trust in the Government they have become complicit in its failure.
It presents something of a paradox, since the vast majority of our Veterans put their lives in harm’s way to battle back the forces of Government oppression. Nazis, Communists and Islamic Fascists all reject our national belief in capitalism and personal freedom in favor of a tyrannical big government. Yet in an effort to repay our Veteran’s sacrifice, we have appropriated the very systems of government control that they fought against. A centralized health care system is more fitting in the Soviet Union than in the US.
Despite the fact that our Veterans have been crusaders for universal personal freedom, I believe many Vets have become accustomed to being abused by the government system during their time in the service. In the military, orders are indisputable and obedience mandatory. The same sense of duty has resulted in our Vets accepting substandard medical care as part of life. It seems to be a sad instance of Stockholm Syndrome. After having followed orders for years from their supierors in the military they now follow the whims of government bureaucrats at the VA.

The VA system has not only failed the Veterans, but it has also failed the country as it has introduced the specter of socialism into our midst and has been championed as an example of central planning by Left Wing pundits such as Paul Krugman. The Right Wing has taken much delight over the past few days in its condemnation of the VA and the poor example it has set for socialist endeavors. However, the damage is already done. The Left has already delivered a socialist healthcare system to the entire nation with Obamacare. The fight for the VA to provide free market health solutions should have been fought decades ago, but instead we tolerated an inept program until it gave birth to an even bigger, more flawed offspring.
It is easy for the Right Wing Republicans to decry the abuses and failures of welfare, Social Security and Food Stamps, but the government isn’t only inept at providing programs we dislike, it also fails to provide adequate service for programs we do like. If the war against Big Government here in America is going to succeed, we must first put the programs that have the most Republican support under the knife to carve out the cancer of government and replace it with free market solutions. Once we have some functioning Free Market programs to show off, it will be easier to transfer those solutions to more of the government programs.
Momentum is running strong against the government and reforming the VA has wide support from both parties; it is the perfect time for our Veterans to lead another battle against a tyrannical government and secure reforms that provide service without the red tape of Washington.
