Speaking in support of his executive actions on immigration President Obama said the following.
“If you look at the history of immigration in this country, each successive wave there have been periods where the folks who were already here have said “Well I don’t want those folks” Even though the only people who have the right to say that are some Native Americans.”
This is level of reasoning is something you expect to see coming from the Huffington Post, MSNBC or the liberal twitter feeds, not the President of the United States. Here is the man who is charged with enforcing the laws of our nation saying that we as a country have no right to police our borders or deport foreign aliens. Once again the Liberal Left relies on completely out of context scenarios to make their arguments. This has been proudly on display as they continue to refer to Michael Brown as an “unarmed teen” while omitting the fact he was assaulting a police officer at the time of his death.
In regards to immigration, the idea that we can’t regulate who comes into our country because no one was there to stamp the passport of the pilgrims is the most specious logic you can find. No one was there to regulate their greenhouse gas emissions of their use of firearms…but that doesn’t hold us back now does it?
Through all of the successive waves of immigration our nation has experienced the theme was the same. Immigrants arrived, submitted themselves to our laws and dispersed into the vast continent of our country to find work and build their own lives as Americans. The difference between this and the majority of illegal immigration across the southern border is stark. Arriving in the company of criminals, taking work from native born Americans and then sending their wages back across the border is not helpful to our economy, our way of life or our citizens especially our newer legal immigrants. It is actively harmful. Yet, this is not an argument against immigration. Allowing the ambitious people of other countries to move and realize their dreams here is a cherished American idea, but the process does matter. Arriving in the dead of night and abusing the safety net of the American welfare system is not the realization of the America Dream but is instead leeching off of the hardworking citizens of a prosperous nation.
Despite the celebrated story of Thanksgiving, the early history of American settlers is a tale of endless hard work and survival against the odds. There was no safety net for new arrivals or the promise of Obamacare to ease the pain of life in a new land. Even in this rather chaotic time, most settlers arrived legally according the charters established by the English Government who claimed the land and organized the original states and treaties with Indian tribes.
Since the Liberal Left is so delighted to point out parts of our history that is distasteful…they are surely aware of the fate the befell the Native Americans when they accepted a tidal wave of unregulated immigration as a fact of life. We are all familiar with the story and it ends with the Native Americans being almost wiped out as a race.
While I doubt Barack Obama wishes for the United States to be crushed by the weight foreigners who refuse to assimilate with the local culture, I do suspect the Liberal Left would find a moment of “We deserve this” self hatred before they are forced from their homes. Doomsday scenarios aside, the Government of the United States does have the responsibility and the moral right to police it’s own borders and regulate who it allows in. If we reject this notion, then all the pillars of government must follow. The right to police its citizens, subject them to taxes and regulations or engage in diplomacy on their behalf also becomes an illusion or at the very least the exclusive right of the Native Americans.
Abstract theories of morality, government and social justice live in their appropriate habitat on college campuses and the internet, the fact that the twisted logic and lack of common sense have found their way into the White House is truly frightening.
